About company
The Heinrich-Hertz-Gymnasium is a school with a special pedagogical character with a mathematical and scientific profile , which has a decades-long tradition in the promotion of mathematically and scientifically interested and gifted students. Located in the center of the city, we teach students from all over Berlin. We are guided by the natural scientist Heinrich Hertz , who knew how to combine his mathematical talent with his admirable experimental skills and who achieved his famous results through unswerving diligence. We offer our students modern, problem-oriented lessons at a high technical level. The work takes place in an atmosphere that is characterized by mutual acceptance and appreciation. One expression of this is the large number of pupils taking part in a wide variety of competitions, in addition to the Olympics, national competitions and “Jugend forscht”. The Heinrich-Hertz-Gymnasium has been one of the most successful schools in Berlin with the most participants in this field for years. The school has received several awards in recent years for the successful implementation of the overall educational concept: 2004 - 1st place at the "Siemens Award" 2007 - Prize of the Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs "Youth Research School" 2008 - 2nd place at the "Siemens Award". The basis of our profiling in secondary level I is an extended timetable in the MINT subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and computer science, whereby the number of hours per week in the sum of all subjects (33 or 34) is not exceeded compared to general high schools. In the grammar school upper level, an extensive range of advanced courses in the subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and computer science traditionally form the basis of our profile. This continues in the documentation requirements and in the requirements for the examination subjects: two examination subjects from the profile area, at least one of them as an advanced course in mathematics, physics or chemistry. In addition, particularly interested pupils take additional basic courses in the subjects of mathematics and physics, which have a long tradition at Heinrich-Hertz-Gymnasium. In the 12th grade, students take part in a complex scientific internship . The participation of interested pupils in the annual "Summer School for Mathematics" has a long tradition . Our biology teacher Mr. Emmrich achieved a special achievement together with committed schoolchildren by creating the “school ocean”, which is both the working field of the working group “Moist Biotope” and a valuable contribution to the school atmosphere. Achieving our educational and upbringing goals is supported by a variety of collaborative relationships with universities and commercial enterprises: e.g. with the Humboldt University in Berlin, Company 02, the Institute for Crystal Growth Berlin-Adlershof and the Karl Weierstrass Institute. We attach great importance to a broad and solid general education of our students and therefore offer challenging and problem-oriented lessons in all subjects, which is expressed in the advanced courses in political science, English and geography. The impressive Abitur results also speak for this . Since 1991, the Heinrich-Hertz-Gymnasium has been in the top group of Berlin high schools with its Abitur averages of 1.8 to 2.3 places (look it up) . In addition, there were above-average results in the middle school leaving certificate, including the exams in a special form. As a specific form of teaching, the project week at the end of each school year is an integral part of our school life. It should be emphasized that the students themselves carry a large part of the organization and design of this week. The wide range of study groups is gladly accepted by the students. In addition, the organization of musical and literary programs, the French Culture Day, broad participation in various memorial tours, language trips to Great Britain and the week of the district's artistic workshops have a long tradition at our school. In addition, a ski course is held annually in cooperation with other Berlin high schools. Committed schoolchildren have been publishing the school newspaper "Hertzschlag" for many years. In the sporting field, we have been earning championship titles and challenge cups in basketball and volleyball at the district and state level for years. Our chess team is just as successful.
